Walgreens Pharmacy change effective Dec. 31st

10/6/2011

Walgreens* Pharmacy has publicly announced it will stop participating as a provider in the PEIA pharmacy network managed by Express Scripts effective January 1, 2012. Express Scripts is very committed to keeping PEIA members’ prescription drugs affordable and accessible. Members can continue to use Walgreens through December 31, 2011, after which time they will need to choose another pharmacy. The pharmacy network contains tens of thousands of other conveniently located pharmacies that offer the same medications at a lower cost than Walgreens.

Why is this happening now? Walgreens company is asking Express Scripts to change some of the standard policies used that keep prescriptions affordable for our members. All of Express Scripts' network pharmacies follow these same policies that work to keep costs down. It isn't right to give Walgreens a special advantage when there are more than 56,000 other pharmacies across the ocuntry willing to provide medications at lower costs.
