PEIA Finance Board Approves Plan to Transition Retirees

12/2/2009

With the end of Coventry's Advantra Freedom plan, you will be getting lots of mail from both Coventry and Humana before the end of the year.

From Humana, look for:
  • Acknowledge Receipt of Enrollment Application letter -- this one just says that Humana got your enrollment information from PEIA. It also gives you some general information about using the Humana benefits. Humana is required by Medicare to send you this letter.

  • Details of Your New Humana Coverage letter -- this one says that Medicare approved your enrollment in Humana and that you'll be in the Humana plan on January 1, 2010. It's required by Medicare.

  • Provider Directory kit -- since PEIA opted to enroll members in a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan (where available), Humana is required to send you a provider directory. You DO NOT have to use network providers. Your in-network and out-of-network benefits are the same, so it doesn't matter if you use Humana network physicians or non-network physicians. Also included with this kit is information about the welcome call you'll be receiving, Humana's 24-hour nurse line, and how to use their phone system. Finally, enclosed is a plastic cover in which to keep your Humana and AdvantraRx cards.

  • Humana Medical ID Card -- this one is self-explanatory. Keep your Humana card with you beginning January 1, in case you need medical services. Keep your red, white and blue Medicare card in a safe place, since you won't need it as long as you're enrolled with Humana.

  • Coventry AdvantraRx ID card -- your prescription benefits are staying with Advantra through the end of this plan year (June 30, 2010). Coventry will be mailing you a new prescription drug ID card that you'll need to present at the pharmacy whenever you fill a prescription on or after January 1, 2010.

  • Disenrollment Notice -- this is the letter that Medicare will be sending you that says you have to make decisions about your coverage. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING IN RESPONSE TO THIS LETTER! PEIA has already enrolled you in the Humana plan for January 1, 2010. If you enroll for other medical or prescription benefits, it may cancel all of your PEIA health benefits.
If you have questions about your medical benefits after January 1, 2010, please call Humana's customer service line at 1-800-783-4599.

If you have questions about your prescription benefits after January 1, 2010, please call Coventry at 1-877-337-4178.
